In this internet age we are living in, data and information is easily accessible to the masses. Books and magazines are slowly becoming less popular as online ebooks and news articles are becoming increasingly popular both in the appeal of being able to access on any smart device around the world as well as its easiness in storage compared to its real life counterparts. Along with this transition, Blogs and Wikis have become popular forms of information outlets that anyone in the world can access as long as they have access to a computer and an internet access.
Although both of these information outlets serve the same primary function of spreading information to the masses, there tone and purpose both differ in what they are providing and what they are accomplishing. UNSW Sydney describes a blog as an, "An online journal (web log), diary or news column with posts in reverse-chronological order and options for readers to comment." As such these blog posts are more concerned with the personal opinion of the blogger, which is usually owned by an individual, which are then followed by comments by the readers that overall promotes the sharing of news, knowledge and expertise. When in comparison, a wiki, which is defined by UNSW Sydney as, "An easily-edited set of one or more linked web pages that readers can add to or modify. Facilitates collaborative content creation." serves the purpose of having a consensus of information that is owned and edited by a group of many people. Also another new use that Wiki's serve is the collaboration of links and articles pertaining to the topic as a great number of people need sources and wiki's are a great starting place for any topic one wishes to learn and research on.
As such you will also see less of personal opinionated statements as wikis are designed to spread facts and statements utilized for learning and the use of peers unlike blogs which encourage discussion and conveying of knowledge and views.(cyborgancthropology.com) However blogs can still be collaborated towards each other on as blog posts can reference other blogs in the aid or recommendation of the writer when pertaining to the topic at hand.
