A type of media that I feel will become extremely popular over the next few years is virtual product placement. As such this concept does exist with some products online offering full 3D views for users to see from all angles they wish to see. In addition, Virtual Reality playgrounds which allow users to place 3D models next to real life people and objects is also becoming more popular as things such as placing a virtual TV in your room to see what it would look like or placing a 3D model of an animal to compare size can all be done with smartphones. However I feel we will see this concept being taken further with advancement in 3D and graphic modeling software as well as hologram hardware where full objects can be displayed in full fidelity and high quality image quality. Fashion brands will be keen on this as 2D images can now be seen in 3D for a better look at a dress or bag as well as virtual models wearing the clothing being advertised so manufacturers don't even need to crea...

Wiki So Far

The content I plan to add into the wiki is a page dedicated to electronic sports otherwise known as e-sports. The gaming page of the wiki touches on this on many of its subsections from the League of Legends competitive circuit, DOTA's the international large prize pool, Overwatch dedicated regional teams and much more. I feel with all the information presented already and to be added, a dedicated page just to e-sports is appropriate and many workings and information from the gaming wiki page will be referenced accordingly. In addition I plan to add details of the history of e-sports from looking into the earliest competition of the game pong, to the large stadiums filled viewers watching gamers playing for millions of dollars. Details of prime competitive circuits, e-athlete's and the legal processes that involve e-sports will all be accounted for in this wiki page for a full understanding and view for the reader.

P2P

With fast download and upload speeds available to everyone these days, file sharing has become a pinnacle part of modern society. File sharing, the act of sharing and transmitting of computer data through a network or internet, can be used in so many ways such as sharing and sending photos to friends and families or uploading a video on YouTube for thousands to see. In addition to its use and accessibility, file sharing allows the access and transmitting of data from one computer to another regardless of their location, making it efficient for the users to work on documents. A specific type of file sharing Peer-to-Peer, or otherwise known as P2P, allows individuals to access media files using software program that searches and locates computers that have the file that is wanted (Margomin). Unlike other uses of file sharing, P2P hosts a whole assortment of files to share from movies, books and music all available for all users to access and download. An example of P2P technology i...

Privacy

In this new media age where information is uploaded and transferred every second, users have been becoming more wary of what personal information there posting as well as the consequences that could come along with it. Although posting personal photos and videos may be intended for friends and family, there may be a chance that people unintended could see these photos and videos as well being used against you in the future. A case you can see this is in the article, "Attack Ad Marks New Era For Millennial Running For Office" where Jon Ossof, a candidate in the special election in Georgia, has college photos and videos of him being used and spun in a way to put him in a negative spotlight as a spoiled frat boy, which is unappealing for the voters.   With other cases like this being more relevant in the upcoming times of the internet you have to wonder how well your privacy is being dealt with and whether it is truly safe for you to post it. Media sites such as Facebook have...

Advice

A part of Baruch that I could feel could improve with the use of new media is the news of Baruch and the spread of general events and programs happening on the campus. As it stands there is already a weekly newsletter and a number of social accounts on twitter and Instagram that touch upon this but I feel every one of them could do a better way to convey this information. Rather then improving on this, other ways Baruch could expand on this information is applying some new forms of media. While there is a newspaper I feel that it could implemented online as well detailing the information of Baruch in its status and events and could perhaps be the replacement/addition to the weekly newsletter. Other ways of news getting spread to student in Baruch is perhaps applying a internet news program whether it be live or through a podcast. This gives a more live look on how the college is as well as gives experience and a learning opportunity to students who wish to partake in this.

Creativity and New Media

A hobby of mine is creating art using adobe photoshop. With the amount of media, specifically pictures, on the internet of high quality, creating and editing pictures is easy and accessible to do. The amount of subjects is also limitless as I tend to work with various things I enjoy whether it be from video games, anime or music artists. Here are some things I created recently using adobe photoshop and stock images.

HW Creativity

With the amount of information available for our fingertips to access the amount of tools for media and content creators to use and draw from for inspiration is limitless. Compared to the past where media was limited to the amount of content you can access from books, newspapers, CDs etc., the internet has given people a large library of high quality photos, video and music all available for anyone with an smart device. With this, creativity is at an all time high with people innovating on all forms of entertainment at a fast pace. An example of this you can see is in the music scene where producers and DJ's have a plethora of music software and samples they can draw from to create there own original songs and tracks without the need of vinyl's, CD's and instruments. The article from the NYtimes, "1+1+1 = 1" by Sasha Frere-Jones explores the world of music mashups where people take two different songs and make it into one track. These mashups are highly creative...
